Small Joy. January 9, 2021

This was one of the days I was out walking and I happened to look up and there was a Black Vulture.   He was sitting atop a telephone pole, just waiting for something to die along the road.  He picked just the right spot, as the cars travel too fast and I have seen many a squirrel carnage. Black Vultures look so menacing, right out of a mystery novel. I wish I had my camera at the ready last week, as I do not know who was more startled me or him when I rounded the bend in the road he came flying out of a thicket at break neck speed.  The sound of his wings alone was enough to make me jump.

Small joys can be coming across an old photo of an old friend that passed away suddenly. She was an amazing woman and someone who saved my life when I needed a friend the most.  After my divorce I badly needed respite of some kind and Susan offered it to me and my two children. She was a generous individual and off we went to Spain for a month, to get away and think and try to make a plan to rebuild my life as a single parent of two adopted kids. Savor each moment.   She will be missed.

Dogs provide endless hours of enjoyment.  After working on my writing I came in to get a much deserved bit of lunch only to find that Liam must have had a rough day on the job.  I did not pose this picture, it is a sign of the times that a dog is resting beside a mask.  Maybe this is the next step in Covid 19 protection.  It made me chuckle and he was no worse for the wear.
